Altars

I drove past the auction house yesterday and spied a mirror. I decided if it was still there when I came back, I would stop to look at it.

It was still there.

Upon closer inspection, I realized this is a medicine cabinet. It's still cool. It is whole, dirty, but not stained.

I debated things for a while. I don't have need of a medicine cabinet. All I really like is the mirror part. I decided to take it.

Sometimes the auction house puts out items with a sign that says 'free.' This wasn't in the section where free things are up for grabs. I was a little afraid someone would want it back, but I don't see why they would put anything they wanted outside on the bench.

After I got home, I figured out why no one wanted it. The medicine cabinet absolutely reeks of urine. I thought my bathroom smelled bad, or that my cat used the rug instead of the litter box. But no. The retro cabinet smells. I just didn't notice outside in the fresh air.

I didn't give up. I vacuumed the cabinet, then wiped it down with vinegar repeatedly. Then I used orange oil. The rags still looked dirty, so I will probably repeat the whole process, then set the cabinet in the sun.

I think eventually this could be a very nice altar. I have several altars. I used to have a sewing cabinet that I used as an altar and I still miss it. The medicine cabinet is of course, much smaller, but it has the same vibe since they were both from the same decade.

I am going to put the medicine cabinet in my studio. I will post pictures when everything is ready.

Blessed be, my dears. Stay safe and well.
