The Importance of Taking Notes

Maybe it's because of my college student days, when I knew I would remember test material if I wrote it down. Or maybe it's from the crappy job I had where I had to document every motherfucking thing that happened to keep from getting thrown under the bus, but wherever it stems from, I make notes. I journal. I draw. I make lists in my phone. I read over these things. Sometimes I have an idea and multiple problems get solved.

I really want a nice record of Tarot card readings. Right off the bat, this is tricky because I have a bunch of decks. I have Tarot, Oracle, playing cards, and runes. None of these have the same number of cards. Not all the cards have the same meaning. In fact, if I get stuck on interpretation, I will get a second deck, find the cards from my reading and see how the different cards compare. Some times, things aren't as bad as I thought. I just needed a different point of view.

I decided to start keeping records in my journal. I would prefer a nice chart, but I don't think I can make something that allows for all categories like cards falling or being left in the box or how one cards compares in a different deck. I guess I could break it down into themes of love, money, and health, but I will probably end up with something I didn't think of. Or something that I don't have but it affects me like my husband's job. Sometimes in-law drama spills over and it doesn't always come from the same person. Since there's a lot of variables, I am just going to write it down and reread it later to see what comes up.

I posted this picture of today's reading on DeviantArt. I am curious to see if social media posts makes things happen faster because more people are adding their energy to my spells. I also started using my Magic 8 Ball for clarification. I am trying to get yes/no on what comes to mind when I first look at the card.

After journaling, I read over phone notes. Months ago, I decided to make spell envelopes. My plan was to put everything I needed in an envelope, then burn it. This means I can spells during the proper time/moon phase, while I am in good health/mood, and burn it when I actually need that thing. This past me looking out for future me. That way I am not blindsided when something hits my wards or someone with a nasty attitude starts shit.

I think the spell envelope is a great idea. I just never did it. I also had notes about spinning spells to bring order to chaos. I have done a few spinning spells. They seem to work. I thought I could go more in depth with it.

And then I had a brilliant idea. I could make the spell envelope by spinning. I could spin crystals on the lazy Susan to cleanse. Then I could empower spell components by spinning. Then I could make the spell by putting everything in the envelope, seal it, write on the outside what it is for, spin the sealed envelope for harmony, and when I need money, luck, or healing, I burn the envelope. Simple. Brilliant. Effective.

I probably wouldn't have come to this conclusion if I didn't have the notes. I wouldn't have connected three very different things in one sitting.

Take notes. It matters.

Blessed be, my dears. Stay safe and well. Also, some witches believe this weekend's storm system is the wild hunt. Stay inside and be good.
