Beginning the Astrology Codex

I googled the definition of codex this morning because I thought it was a special kind of book. No, codex is just a book. The first book, invented by the Romans. Now I feel I can make whatever I like, without worry of my book not being a 'real' codex because I have it formatted wrong or some such nonsense.

Since a codex is just a book, I decided to repurpose something I already owned. My personal majick involves using whatever is around. My current Book of Shadows is a photo album because as a child, I used a photo album for my sticker collection and I absolutely loved it. I really wanted to recreate that joy. I bought a photo album for my BOS, but I didn't really want to buy another for the Astrology Codex because I wanted it to look very different.

I decided to use one of my mother's many photo albums. I opted for the one that is a two ring binder so I can add pages if need be, or move them around. It has 41 pages, front and back gives me 82. That should be more than enough for a title page, at least four pages per sign, and several left over for my notes.

My first step was to decide where in the library the Astrology Codex would live. I have made several books. I stash them on the bookcases so my family will find them later. I decided to dust while looking for the perfect spot.

When I saw my spell plate, I decided I should probably cleanse the album first. My mother is a toxic person. I have no way of knowing why she got that album, how long she's had it, or if there's any resentment attached. Resentment comes up a lot with photos. She kept trying to rewrite her family history into a better story. She struggled with her own emotional baggage. I do not want to carry anything negative into my majick.

My spell plate is a lazy susan spice rack. I read that spinning brings order to chaos. I'm not sure that's exactly true, but it is fun to spin the plate. I usually put crystals around the plate and it looks very pretty spinning in the light.

Once the album was cleansed and given a new purpose, I decided to put it on the smaller bookcase. I think this area needs more majick. This is the bookcase where I keep the old Bibles that I use as spell books. Astrology has a long history in Xianity, though most Xians today think it's devil worship. Fortune telling is bad. They are ignorant of the fact that astrology was used for everything from planting crops, to aligning the direction of buildings (especially churches), to treating illness. For me, astrology is another tool and it ranks right up there with reading Psalms for spells. My black heart skips a beat with delight.

The next step is to start gathering information, then designing Zodiac pages. I will probably put my codex on this blog so the information is public and readily available.

Blessed be, my dears. Stay safe and well. Don't let the fascists win. Even small acts of resistance annoys them. Read books, plant a garden, and be happy.
